The Golden Globes award season kicked off on Sunday night. The 78th annual Golden Globes were previously delayed from January due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving the four-time host of the award nights, Tina Fey, who anchored from New York, and Amy Poehler, who anchored from Los Angeles.
The animosity concerning the HFPA(the Hollywood Foreign Press Association) is under fire. The recent Los Angeles Times investigation revealed ethical setbacks and disclosed that the HFPA doesn’t have a single Black journalist working for the company among its 87 members.
An HFPA Helen Hoehne, a member from Germany during the ceremony said: “Tonight, while we celebrate the work of artists from around the globe, we recognize that we have our own work to do,”
Netflix drama The Crown, which focuses on the Princess Diana era, took four trophies home: Best TV Drama and acting trophies for Gillian Anderson, Emma Corwin, and Josh O’Connor. Queen’s Gambit, another Netflix drama, scored a pair of trophies for Best Limited Series and Best Actress in Limited Series for Anya Taylor Joy.
Pop TV’s Schmitt’s claimed two awards for Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in TV Comedy (Catherine O’Hara). Noomaland took home two key awards, best motion picture drama and the director Chloe Zhao won the best director trophy, Chloe Zhao became the second woman to win in that category joining Barbara Streisand for 1983’s Yentl. A Pixar animated movie, Soul won the Best Animated Movie award.
