Create Avatar on Facebook – Things are hitting up on Facebook with the create avatar on Facebook feature which has just been rolled out by Facebook recently. You can now kiss goodbye to the days when you only were able to express your emotions through Facebook’s generic sad, happy, angry or thumbs-up emoji.
Thankfully last week, Facebook rolled out a new avatar feature to users in the US, after its launch last year to other countries. This avatar is quite similar to Snapchat’s Bitmoji, and it is a feature that allows Facebook users to create a cartoon-like character of themselves. These avatars, can be used in comments, Facebook stories and Messenger.
Create Avatar on Facebook
You can now create and post your own custom-made avatar to the social media platform. You can now use this new feature in a selection of the platform’s capabilities and create your likeness and use them both on the main site and on the Messenger app.
The avatar feature was first rolled out to Australia and New Zealand followed by US recently. You can use it to add extra flair to your comments and stories, to replace the conventional emoji.
According to Fidji Simo, the head of the Facebook app, the new feature has been announced via the platform, and says that the personal expression has become ‘more important than ever’. She also states that ‘so much of our interactions these days are taking place online, which is why it is more important than ever to be able to express yourself personally on Facebook’.

- You can personalize your avatar to make it represent your unique, authentic self, using a new range of customizations, like new hairstyles, complexions, as well as outfits.
How to Create Facebook Avatar
If you are confused about how to create your very own Facebook avatar I am here to help you because just like you are having issues with creating your own avatar, others are also having issues creating their own avatar as well.
- Start by opening up the Facebook app on your iOS or Android device and click on the three horizontal lines at the bottom-right of your screen.
- Then navigate down and click on ‘See More’.
- Tick on ‘Avatars’
- Click on ‘Next’ and then on ‘Get Started’.
- Select a skin tone that blends with yours and then click on ‘Next’.
- The next thing you are required to do, is to go through each section of hairstyle, hair color, face shape, and color, makeup, eyebrows, nose shape, facial hair, body shape, outfit etc. and customize your avatar to your liking. There is also a section for face lines and complexion if you want to get down to the extreme details. If you really want to match your facial features to that of your avatar, you can tap on the mirror icon at the top right of the screen to open your phone’s front-facing camera.
- After you have finished customizing your avatar, and you are content with how it looks, just click on the check mark at the top right corner of your screen.
- Immediately the screen completes the loading process, just click on ‘Next’.
- Click on the ‘Done’ option.
Congratulations, you have just created an avatar for yourself. You can now click on the arrow sign at the top right, to share it your Facebook feed or set it as a temporary profile picture.
How to Make Changes to Your Avatar
If you want to see the different Avatar stickers, do the following:
- Click on the sticker icon, which is the smiling square below the arrow
- If you want to effect any changes to your avatar, simply tap on the pencil icon.
Using Your Avatar on Comments
If you want to use your avatar creation in comments:
- Just tap on the smiley face close to the gif icon
- Then click on the avatar icon on the bottom of the screen, which is fourth from the left
