Could this be true!! There’s a rumour going on that an Undo feature for Twitter may stand in the gap of the Edit feature users were requesting. Twitter is an American microblogging and social networking service whereby users post and interact with messages Know as ‘Tweets’. The tweets are short Messages though.
The Edit Feature, on the other hand, seems to be out of the question (there literarily no hope on that) but the Undo feature which Twitter might be working on can come in handy.
What is Twitter Sayin About An Edit Button?
Last year January( 2020), a Q&A section was held with the WIRED magazine on YouTube, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was asked if considerations would be put in place to add an Edit to Twitter and his answer was one gigantic “NO”. Twitter started as an SMS service and the company had plans of sticking to that. The co-founder also stated that he’ll probably never introduce the edit function.
Major Problems that could be caused by an Edit Button
As demanding and needy as an Edit Button might be, it’s got some few effects. They are:
Twitter’s instantaneous nature mighty unleash with an Edit Button. It might give a chance for fake news and online misinformation. Though, Twitter took a step with Birdwatch in recent months against false information. So this combat move wouldn’t work out well if the Edit Button is launched.
It would be late to make amends if there a wrong post that would have been viewed by thousands of not millions of users.
It would lead to a mislead in contents, considering the fact that twitter has a lower character limit than LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
There’s ever possiblity for trolling if the Edit Button is allowed. A message could get spread through retweets, only to give out the tweet to something completely different.
How Will The Undo Button Work?
Asides from the comment made by Dorsey and his reluctance to add an edit button to Twitter, he did make it obvious that some kind of editing tool would probably be useful and so far it seems like the Undo option will be the best users will get.
On March 5th, Jane Manchu Wong an app researcher and technology expert tweeted an animation of how the Undo feature might work. Users will have a real short window to undo your tweet before it goes live. Selecting this option allows you to alter your spelt and change incorrect links if you’ve made an error.
You would see what you’ve posted behind the undo button overlay, just in case you didn’t notice anything before the window closed then you’d need to delete what you posted and start again.
Undo Button Might Bring Some Relief
This could actually happen by allowing users to make changes to grammatic errors which is the main reason users actually need this feature. This short window would actually help twitters keep its real-time vibe and make it more difficult to spread false information.
If the Undo Button launch’s ( it’s under probability though), it pays to take few seconds to look over your posts for errors before sending it. It puts an end to fake news, questions and verify all information you see before resharing. Let’s all be expectant and hope for this feature to be launched on twitter. Have fun tweeting.
