The phone number you provide for your Gmail verification is very important. Google uses the phone number to help you recover your account if there is no other alternative to the recovery method.
How to change Gmail phone number on a computer
- Open your browser and sign in to your Gmail account with your username and password
- Select the account at the upper right corner of your screen
- Click on manage your account
- At the left side of the menu select personal information
- Go to the contact info section and select phone
- Go to your Google phone number and select edit (pencil icon)
- Enter your Google account password and select the next button
- Tap on edit
- Tao on edit phone number
- Enter a new phone number and save
Changing phone number on iOS and Android Gmail App
- Open the Gmail app on your mobile app
- Tap on the menu button
- Scroll down and select settings
- Tap on your Gmail address in your settings
- Select manage your google account
- Tap on personal information in the Google Account
- Tap on ‘phone’ in the personal info
- Tap on the pencil icon to edit
- Enter your password to verify your identity
- Tap on edit
- Then on update phone number
- Input the new number, then tap on select to complete the process
Adding or changing a recovery Number
To add or change your recovery number:
- Open device setting app on your device, click on manage your google account
- Tap on security
- Tap recovery phone, under ways we can verify it’s you (you might need to be signed in)
- From here you can: add a recovery phone number, change your recovery number, delete your recovery phone number.
Deleting a recovery phone number does not restrict if from being used for other Google services.
