WhatsApp Now requires iPhone Users to Be Running iOS 10 Or Later – WhatsApp announced it is cutting off supports for an older version of Apple’s mobile operating system and devices, marking the end of the line for those who are still on iOS 9. According to new support documents on the WhatsApp website, all WhatsApp customers who use the iPhone are expected to be on iOS 10 which was released in 2016, or later use the service.
The document also stated that, Facebook-owned messaging platform currently provides support and recommends using the following devices and operating system versions
- Android running OS 4.0.3 and newer
- IPhone running iOS 10 and newer
- Choose phones running Kaios 2.5.1 newer, including jiophone and jiophone2
As a result, the encrypted messaging service no longer function on the iPhone which doesn’t support iOS 10. Most of the people who are on iOS 9 are iPhone 4s users, they will need to upgrade to the iPhone 5 or the latest model to continue enjoying WhatsApp.
The social media messaging platform has been testing several new features with a few numbers of customers which may or may not see the light of day. Although, some of these tests are quite promising, however, the company is yet to address two popular “feature request”
Firstly, the app cannot be activated with multiple phone numbers on more than one device at a time, and secondly, exchanging chats between platforms directly is currently not possible without having to export your chat history as an email extension. The social media platform stated before it was working on both of these features.
